Pursuit and crash on Highway 50

On 6/4/2020 Lanett Police Department was given the description of a stolen vehicle out of West Point. Shortly after the B.O.L.O. was given out, Lanett Officer Pierce saw the vehicle in the 4400 blk of HYW 50 in Lanett. As soon as the offender (Jamal Mayfield) saw the police vehicle he re-entered the stolen vehicle and began to flee on HWY 50 toward Lafayette. The chase reached speeds in excess of 100 mph and the offender was actively trying to run people off of the road including the officer. At the corner of 69th Ave SW and HWY 50 the offender attempted to turn with the officer in close pursuit and both vehicles crashed. The offender was then identified and he was found to have felony warrants out of Georgia. He will also have pending charges from Lanett Police Department for this pursuit. At the time of the crash both the officer and offender complained of pain. The offender was flown to Columbus for treatment and the officer was taken to East Alabama Medical Center (Opelika) where she was treated and released. The status of the offender is unknown at the time of this release.
